How Essential Oils Are Born
Essential oils are the pure, volatile essence of plants — their life force distilled into aromatic gold.
The most common and sacred method of extraction is steam distillation.
Plant material is placed within a vessel above gently simmering water. As the heat rises, steam delicately ruptures the oil glands, releasing the plant’s aromatic essence. This sacred vapour travels through a condensing tube, cools, and transforms into two distinct gifts:

The essential oil — the plant’s concentrated spirit, light and fragrant, which floats to the top and is lovingly collected.

The floral water (or hydrosol) — the gentle, water-based infusion beneath, like rose or lavender water, soft and subtle yet profoundly healing.

Citrus oils, however, are extracted differently — through expression, where their rinds are gently pressed to release their bright, sunlit essence.
